This Presidents' Day

As we celebrate Presidents’ Day, let us reflect on those who have served our country and embodied the very values from which our country was founded, and let us remain committed to restoring liberty in America.

Presidents’ Day has historically honored the birthdays of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Above all, these great men fought for liberty. They fought oppressive government, and they fought for the personal freedoms of every American, preserving the rights given to us by our Creator and enshrined in our Constitution.

This November, we must defeat Obama and make sure that the institution of the presidency can once again become a symbol of leadership and a protector of liberty that instills unshakeable confidence among American citizens.

End the Love Affair

It’s that special day, when sweethearts exchange those perfect gifts wrapped in red. And in the last three years, Obama has given us an enormous budget deficit and red ink as far as your children will ever see.

He has scrapped the Keystone pipeline, a lifeline to 20,000 jobless Americans. And he has given us an energy policy that will have us all seeing red with gas prices shooting north of $4 by spring. As with many things this President has missed the meaning of this special day.

It’s time to end the love affair.

Will you support conservative David Dewhurst’s mission to break the hearts of out-of-touch Washington insiders? We need jobs, economic growth, and energy independence now!

By rejecting the Keystone XL Pipeline, Obama will allow millions of barrels of North American oil to be sent to China, and our energy dependence will put us at the mercy of radical Islamic regimes and others who wish us harm.

Obama, batting his eyes back at China and these radical regimes, will stand idly by as money flows into the unstable region.

Help David Dewhurst put America first. Can you grow the movement with a donation of $25, $50, $100, or more today?

Texas Association of Builders HOMEPAC endorses Dewhurst for U.S. Senate

Today, HOMEPAC, the political arm of the Texas Association of Builders' (TAB), announced their support of David Dewhurst for United States Senate. In the endorsement, HOMEPAC Chairman Terry Weaver said David has “proven pro-business values” and works to promote the American Dream.

“As chairman of the HOMEPAC Trustees and member of the Texas Association of Builders, I am proud to announce our endorsement of Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst in his election for U.S. Senate,” Weaver said. “Governor Dewhurst has demonstrated his proven pro-business values and works alongside the Texas Association of Builders to promote the American dream of homeownership.  We know he will carry this passion for Texas housing to the U.S. Capitol.”

Obamanomics vs. Reality

Conservative leadership in Texas has created a business climate that has kept unemployment relatively low, even during the Obama Recession. As Lieutenant Governor, David Dewhurst has made job creation a top priority, and Texas has seen better job growth than any other state.

But the rest of the nation has been far less immune to job-killing Obamanomics. Free market advocate Louis Woodhill notes that Obama’s new fuzzy math fails to account for the 4.8 million Americans who have recently abandoned hopes for finding a job.

President Obama is looking for any statistic that can salvage his reelection efforts, and his dishonest claims of economic recovery reflect a disappointing break from reality. Over 15 million unemployed Americans would certainly disagree with the president’s manufactured optimism.

We need conservatives in the Senate to reverse the damage of Obamanomics. David Dewhurst’s plan to fast-track job creation repeals budget-busting Obamacare, stops the EPA’s war on jobs, ends costly regulations, and allows domestic energy production to grow American jobs!

It’s time for a return to the free market. Texas under David Dewhurst’s leadership has dealt with the unemployment issue better than all other states. We need his tested conservative principles in Washington, combating Obamanomics and unleashing American job creation.

Dewhurst urges Speaker Boehner and Leader Reid to pass Keystone XL legislation

The Honorable Harry Reid                 The Honorable John Boehner
United States Senate                       United States House Of Representatives
522 Hart Senate Office Building        H-232 The Capitol
Washington, DC 20510                      Washington, DC 20515

Dear Senator Reid and Speaker Boehner,

I am writing today to express my profound disappointment and urge you to pass legislation immediately approving the Keystone XL Pipeline and helping thousands of Americans get back to work.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's assertion that the Keystone XL Pipeline permit should be denied because it "does not serve the national interest" is outrageous, and the White House's claim that the deadline set forth by Congress has "prevented a full assessment of the pipeline's impact" is a blatant misrepresentation of the facts.  The State Department has now had three years to review the Keystone XL pipeline proposal, and the benefits are resoundingly positive. Construction of the pipeline is estimated to create 20,000 jobs, support 118,000 spinoff jobs for local businesses and generate more than $20 billion in economic output.

Beyond answering many of our country’s economic problems, this project will help secure America’s energy independence long into the future.  The United States currently imports 10-11 million barrels of oil per day.  Building the Keystone XL pipeline would help reduce our dependence on imported oil from unstable regions like the Middle East and prevent Canada from exporting their valuable energy resources to other nations, such as China.

As Texans, we cannot emphasize enough how important the Keystone XL project is to our state. We have thousands of highly-skilled workers here in Texas who would eagerly fill the positions created by this project.  The project would bring as much as $2 billion in economic output and $41 million in tax revenue to Texas − money our state could use to avert future budget shortfalls created by the weak national economy.  The Keystone XL project will also greatly benefit local small businesses in the towns along the construction zones, and after construction is completed, local economies will continue to enjoy the benefits of increased local property tax revenue for the entire 100-year life of the project.

Please do not allow the Obama Administration to put Presidential politics or the interests of radical environmental groups ahead of the economic welfare of our country.  Americans have already waited three years for the approval of this important proposal, and they cannot afford to wait any longer.  I urge you to act today in supporting legislation that will move the Keystone XL Pipeline project forward, help secure our energy independence and provide much-needed jobs to thousands of hardworking Americans.

Sincerely,
David Dewhurst
Lt. Governor, State of Texas

The Obama Deficit

In Texas, state government has lived within its means under David Dewhurst’s leadership. A balanced budget every legislative session has helped make Texas the most business-friendly climate where jobs have grown faster than any other state—by far!

This year, Americans are unfortunate enough to learn that President Obama has gravely miscalculated the severity of his destructive spending spree. The Weekly Standard notes that the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office discovered that Obama may have underestimated his yearly deficit by close to half a trillion dollars.

Values of my father -- Michael Reagan

Over thirty years ago, my father put Washington insiders on defense and completely transformed DC’s business-as-usual mindset with a conservative revolution. He stood strong for pro-growth, pro-life, and pro-family principles that helped us rediscover American Exceptionalism and economic prosperity.

In 2012, Texans have the opportunity to send a Reagan Republican with these same principles to Washington at a time when our future and our values are in peril. That’s why I’m endorsing David Dewhurst for Senate.

Dewhurst Releases Tax Returns For 2009 and 2010, Estimates for 2011

Lt. Governor David Dewhurst, candidate for Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate, released his 2009 and 2010 tax returns in full today, along with an estimate of his 2011 income and charitable contributions.

For 2009, Dewhurst and his wife, Patricia, showed an Adjusted Gross Income loss of $1,485,642, along with a tax payment of $281,188.  The Dewhursts made charitable contributions of $933,884 during the year.

For 2010, the Dewhursts filed an AGI of $1,010,218, and paid taxes of $443,646.  They made charitable contributions of $1,197,000 during the year.

For 2011, tax returns will not be filed until later in the year.  Accountants estimate the Dewhurst AGI for 2011 at just over $5 million.  The Dewhursts made charitable contributions during 2011 of $1.9 million.

This Is Why We Fight

Once again, President Obama has snatched defeat from the jaws of victory by blocking the building of the Keystone XL Pipeline from Canada to Houston, which would have created 20,000 new jobs.

President Obama would rather see radical environmentalists happy than Americans with jobs.

Sign up to volunteer with our campaign today so that we can win the Republican primary, win the general election in November and run Washington more like Texas.

Thank you, Governor Perry

Governor Rick Perry’s presidential campaign was driven by his devotion to country and a relentless fight for the conservative principles we have applied to Texas. Governor Perry put forth an inspiring vision for the future of our country during his campaign.
