DEWHURST: Halting Chinese corporate espionage

U.S. must recognize relentless theft of research threatens our economy

By David Dewhurst

Intellectual-property theft by China has emerged in recent years as a significant threat to American businesses, American jobs and the American economy. Companies both in the United States and abroad can spend countless years and money on research and development to innovate and improve, only to have their work stolen with just a few strokes of a keyboard.

You do not have to look far to find victims of Chinese intellectual-property theft.

In 2010, American businessman Jordan Fishman was awarded a $26 million judgment in a Virginia federal court jury trial against Shandong Linglong Tyre Co., a Chinese tire company found liable for copyright and trademark infringement, civil conspiracy and conversion for stealing Mr. Fishman’s blueprints and counterfeiting his company’s design in the production of mining tires.

Knowing that the blueprints were stolen, Shandong Linglong officials consciously made the decision to move forward with production, lining their pockets with ill-gotten gains. Before stealing Mr. Fishman’s work,Shandong Linglong had never once produced a mining tire.

Ted Cruz's Close Ties to the Obama Administration

It was reported this morning that Ted Cruz's law partners at Morgan, Lewis and Bockius are major supporters of the Obama Administration, having contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars. Since Ted Cruz was hired as a partner at the law firm in 2008, his associates have contributed an astounding total of more than $750,000 to Democrats across the country.

"This is hypocrisy at its highest level," said Dewhurst campaign spokesman Matt Hirsch. "How can Texans expect Ted Cruz to stand up to Democrats in Washington when he doesn't have the backbone to stand up to his own firm, which has served as President Obama's personal checkbook?"

According to the Sunlight Foundation Influence Explorer, Ted Cruz's partners at Morgan, Lewis and Bockius have donated over $200,000 to Obama since 2008. Other notable contributions to Democrats include $100,000 to Hillary Clinton, $100,000 to former Sen. Arlen Specter (D-PA) and $50,000 to Sen. John Kerry (D-MA). Partners at the same law firm have also given nearly $25,000 to Ted Cruz.

Dewhurst Denounces Budget Proposal from President Obama

Lt. Governor David Dewhurst today criticized President Barack Obama's budget proposal, calling the plan more of the same tax-and-spend policies that have driven America further into the current debt crisis. Dewhurst strongly opposes President Obama's reckless budget, and proposes that Washington significantly cut spending to get the deficit under control.

President Obama made a pledge to the American people that he would cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term. With his newly proposed budget, the projected deficit for 2012 is $1.33 trillion, marking four consecutive years the deficit has surpassed $1 trillion. Under President Obama's tenure, the national debt has increased more than $5 trillion.

"The budget proposal from President Obama is another reckless tax, spend and borrow scheme," said Dewhurst. "The current proposal is not a serious solution to getting our debt crisis under control and is not a legitimate attempt to rein in federal spending. President Obama just keeps digging our ditch deeper and deeper, increasing the mortgage on our children's future."

Noting that it has been more than 1,000 days since the U.S. Senate last passed a budget, Dewhurst continued, "Texans and the American people deserve proven conservative leadership in Washington, which is opposite what President Obama has proposed with his budget."

Texas Restaurant Association endorses Dewhurst for U.S. Senate

The Texas Restaurant Association (TRA) today announced its support of David Dewhurst for U.S. Senate.  In issuing its endorsement, the Association noted David’s record as a fiscal conservative and his role in balancing state budgets during difficult financial times.  The TRA represents the state’s important restaurant industry that generates some $36 billion in revenue and employs more than one million Texans.

Lisa Perini, President of the Texas Restaurant Association and owner of Perini Ranch Steakhouse in Buffalo Gap, Texas, said that David Dewhurst “has been a great friend to the hard working people in our industry.  We think he’ll make a great Senator for the State of Texas.”

Dallas Morning News: Dewhurst opposes Texas' tuition breaks for illegal immigrants

Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst on Monday publicly broke with Governor Rick Perry on whether to give illegal immigrants in-state, college tuition breaks.

“I understand the argument for it, I understand the governor’s position, but this is all about fairness,” said Dewhurst, a Republican running in a crowded field for the Senate.

“If we’re not going to give fellow Americans who live in Louisiana or Oklahoma or New Mexico the ability to come into Texas and have in-state tuition and save $70,000, $80,000, $90,000 … then is it fair to give that break to people who are not

WFAA: Dewhurst says I'll serve in the Senate, won't support illegal immigrants tuition law

DALLAS - Although Gov. Rick Perry's White House run gets a lot of the attention, the biggest Texas race next year is for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate.

The presumed favorite in the March primary, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, told News 8 that he will serve in the Senate if elected.

While it may sound odd that Dewhurst would even have to make such a statement, there is a reason why.

Dallas Morning News: Poll Shows Dewhurst Ahead In Senate Race

In the latest of several public polls by a Democratic outfit about next year's U.S. Senate race in Texas, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst runs strongest for state Republicans against two Democrats.

Dewhurst would beat either former general Ricardo Sanchez or defeated Waco congressman Chet Edwards, according to Public Policy Polling. The Democratic polling firm, using an automated phone survey, said Dewhurst leads Sanchez by 15 points at 47-32 and Edwards by 8 points at 43-35.
