"Following the decision earlier this week by the D.C. federal court to strike down Texas’ redistricting plan, today’s ruling to reject Texas’ Voter ID law should be a rallying cry for conservatives across Texas as the Obama Administration continues to trample on our states’ rights," Dewhurst said. "The law passed in Texas was designed to protect the right of one person-one vote by ensuring that only U.S. citizens − who are legally eligible − vote in elections.

Houston Chronicle: Dewhurst names Tommy Williams Senate Finance Chair
State Sen. Tommy Williams, R-The Woodlands, is the new chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.
Williams was tapped Monday by Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst to replace Sen. Steve Ogden, R-Bryan, the longtime Finance chairman who didn’t run for re-election to his Senate seat.
“Senator Williams is a strong conservative who has ably served on Senate Finance and led on major issues facing Texas,” Dewhurst said in a statement. “I’m confident in his ability to prioritize state spending and continue balancing a transparent state budget without raising taxes. I look forward to working closely with him this session to ensure that Texas government lives within its means.”
